At the region’s home for motorsport, the 2022 championship saw new winners and thrilling action on display at Yas Marina Circuit across the weekend

Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, UAE, February 2, 2022: The fast start to 2022 continued at Yas Marina Circuit this weekend, as Round Two of this season’s Yas Super Street Challenge saw the best of the UAE’s high-speed drag racers vying for glory at the region’s home of motorsport.
On the NHRA accredited track, racers went head-to-head across the 6 categories, with new champions crowned and some family on-track feuds on display in an action-packed weekend on Yas Island.

As the championship reached the half-way mark, new winners were crowned to add to what has been a dramatic season so far across the new categories and beyond. On the 200M course, the recently introduced Super Street Outlaw V6 and V8 races saw new winners, as Nawaf Ahmed Hamad and Abdullah Khalifa Al Shamshi finish on top of the podium following their performances across the weekend.
In the INDEX leagues, there were new champions crowned as Dustin Lowell Williams and Hajji Humaid Musabbeh Al Kaabi won in the INDEX 10.0 and 11.0 sections. It was a strong performance for the Al Kaabi family, with Hamdan Juma Musabeh Al Kaabi retaining first place in the INDEX 9.0 section at Yas Marina Circuit. Alongside Hamdan Al Kaabi on the podium was Rashid Al Balooshi, the son of 2009 World Champion Khalid Al Balooshi, who secured third place in the first drag race of his career.

Speaking following his son’s incredible performance, Khalid said “I would like to thank the organisers for the efforts they put in creating this amazing event and I’m so happy to be here today at the Yas Super Street Challenge with my son Rashid in his first drag race. Championships such as this play a great role in creating new generations of racing drivers, by nurturing young talent and allowing them to showcase their ability and speed in a professional environment.”
In the INDEX 4X4 category, Fadi Tamour, continued his winning streak following his victory in the V8 categories in the opening round, earned top spot in the local classic. Tamour, took victory ahead of his wife and previous winner in this year’s championship, Ghayda Issmael to round out the weekend’s action at the region’s home of motorsport.

The four-round competition, approved by the NHRA as part of the Worldwide network to promote drag racing across the globe, will host the next round of action on 5th and 6th March 2022 at the iconic Yas Marina Circuit.
The Yas Super Street Challenge provides racers with a professional, safe environment to face off against fellow drivers in a true test of their skill behind the wheel and their car’s speed at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

This year’s event will see a total prize pot of more than AED 360,000 up for grabs, as drivers compete for bragging rights and cash prizes in this year’s competition.
