Abu Dhabi, 3rd November 2022: Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) is a critical part of the official UAE delegation headed by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) and the UAE Climate Change Envoy Office participating in the Conference of Parties of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), also known as COP27. The event this year is held in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt from 6th to 18th November.

Her Excellency, Secretary General, Dr. Shaikha Al-Dhaheri, said: “We work alongside the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and UAE Climate Change Envoy office to represent UAE in all UNFCCC events. Climate change is a bitter reality that we all live with and have to acknowledge, and I am extremely proud of the fact that the UAE has always taken a serious position towards this looming threat that requires prompt action from all of us.”

She added: “Events like COP27 allow all of us to continue the necessary global dialogue regarding climate action, and how we all have to take positive and ambitious steps forward to mitigate and adapt to this challenge. We have a dedicated team of climate action experts and negotiators from EAD who will be playing an active role in sharing the Abu Dhabi story at COP27 and exchanging significant information with organisations and members from all over the world to support COP 27 Presidency and bridge the gap towards COP 28 UAE. This is vital so that we are continuously implementing best international practises to our climate action programmes and learning from our peers.”

She elaborated: “We will also be hosting side events to highlight a plethora of projects that we have worked on that are centered around youth, biodiversity and nature-based solutions and we look forward to sharing our experience with a global audience.”

EAD will be highlighting a series of projects at COP27 to showcase UAE’s commitment to pursuing a low carbon economy to create lasting economic and social development opportunities across all nations. These events include: the Single-Use Plastic Policy, Blue Carbon and mangrove initiatives, a Youth Debate and EAD’s outreach youth programmes.

The hosting of COP27 in the green city of Sharm El-Sheikh this year marks the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Egypt's COP27 presidency vision is to move from negotiations and planning to implementation. The COP27 meeting in Sharm El-Sheikh, aims to build on previous successes and pave the way for future ambition. It serves as a golden opportunity for all stakeholders to rise to the occasion and tackle effectively the global challenge of climate change facilitated by Egypt on the African continent.
