Abu Dhabi, UAE, February 1, 2023: The NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) Institute has announced a series of in-person talks and conferences for its February lineup, which will offer attendees insights into a diverse range of topics including architecture, business, and the environment, among others.

The February lineup kicks off with a talk titled The Arrival of Late Modernism in Dubai, which is part of the 50U series, where speaker Maryam M. Ahli, architect and architectural historian, explores how old and new Dubai represent the city’s dual cosmopolitan context. The talk is open to the public and looks at the stylistic evolution from Dubai’s old areesh, coral stone, and palm frond houses to new modernist buildings.

The lineup also includes a talk titled Narratives of the Moriscos’ Expulsion in Spanish and Arab Thought. In collaboration with Abu Dhabi Festival, this talk will analyze the different representations of the Moriscos’ history in Spanish and Arab thought from the early modern era to today.

During February, The Institute has collaborated with key institutions in the UAE such as The UAE’s Ministry of Economy, The Center for Smart Engineering Materials, Abu Dhabi Festival, Alserkal Arts Foundation, Warehouse421, and the Humanities Research Fellowship for the Study of the Arab World, to name a few, to present a series of public discussions and conferences.
