Abu Dhabi, 18 April 2023 – On May 3rd, 2023, the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group (ADSG), with the support of the Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD), will be holding a Hiwar (Arabic for dialogue) knowledge sharing session on the ‘Journey to Dubai – the Road to COP28’, in Abu Dhabi. This event will see members and stakeholders of the Group reconvene in person for the first time in the past three years, to share best practice and thought leadership on the latest innovations and practical toolkits to drive decarbonization efforts.

While this session will provide an overview on past UN climate summits and agreements, the aim of the agenda will be to define the practical and immediate actions that need to be taken to keep the goals of the Paris Agreement – limiting the global temperature rise to 1.5°C – within reach.

In the past few decades, climate change has become a top priority for the UAE with a strong focus on technological advancements in the renewable and clean energy arena. As we move towards the end of 2023, the UAE has been designated as the host nation for the upcoming 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), reaffirming the country’s unwavering commitment to advancing climate action and mobilizing practical and innovative solutions to solve the global climate crisis.

Along with setting the scene in the run up to COP28 UAE as well as the aims and vision of the Emirates, this event will be headlined by a diverse and prolific panel of global and local subject matter experts. Participants will learn more about harnessing nature-based solutions to solve the climate and biodiversity loss crisis as well as explore how the private sector and businesses can shift from being part of the problem to being a pivotal part of the solution and perhaps the greatest ally in helping to drive transformational climate action.

This Hiwar session, will be the thirteenth in a long-standing series of regular talks, that will see over 100 senior sustainability professionals and practitioners joining across all disciplines and sectors.
