Abu Dhabi, 28 August, 2023: The NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2023 Presented by ADQ will make a welcome return to Abu Dhabi in October, with a series of basketball-themed activities and initiatives culminating in the Dallas Mavericks taking on the Minnesota Timberwolves at Etihad Arena in a pair of pre-season exhibitions. The Games promise to bring together NBA fans from across the region once again, playing a significant role in the emirate’s Vision 2030 goals to encompass economic diversification, promote sustainable practices, and foster social wellbeing.

Taking place this year on 5 and 7 October, the NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2023 Presented by ADQ is part of a multiyear collaboration between the NBA and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) which empowers Abu Dhabi and its diverse communities.

Strengthening Inclusivity
Central to Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 is the desire to build a harmonious and inclusive society. The NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2023 Presented by ADQ provide a unique opportunity for people from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and age groups to unite under the banner of basketball. This sense of unity and camaraderie nurtures social cohesion and integration, laying the foundation for a strong and resilient community.

Promoting Healthy Lifestyles
Promoting healthier living and enhancing the quality of life for all residents aligns with the core principles of Vision 2030. The Games act as a catalyst for inspiring physical activity and wellbeing among individuals of all ages, with the activities, excitement, and fervour surrounding the two pre-season matches encouraging attendees to adopt active lifestyles and prioritise their health. A priority focus is on young people, and in January, the NBA and DCT Abu Dhabi launched an expanded second season of the Jr. NBA Abu Dhabi League, featuring boys’ and girls’ leagues each composed of 450 players ages 11-14 from schools across the UAE capital.

Fostering Economic Growth through Tourism
As a premier global destination for sports and entertainment events, Abu Dhabi’s tourism sector receives a significant boost from hosting the NBA Abu Dhabi Games. Drawing sports enthusiasts and visitors from around the region, the Games elevate the emirate’s prominence and generate a positive economic impact. This economic diversification contributes to a more resilient and sustainable economy.

Cultural Exchange
The NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2023 Presented by ADQ facilitate cultural exchange and global outreach, bringing together individuals from different corners of the world. Through the exhibition of elite basketball talent and interactive fan events, Abu Dhabi becomes a meeting point for diverse cultures, enriching the emirate’s multicultural fabric and strengthening its international standing.
