Abu Dhabi, 19 February 2024: Abu Dhabi Festival is thrilled to announce the resounding success of the 'Festival in The Park', an enchanting celebration of cultural diversity and community engagement that took place on 16th and 17th February.

Nestled in the park, this two-day event celebrated Chinese New Year while enchanting attendees with a colorful blend of Chinese and Emirati culture. From serene tea ceremonies to thrilling Kung Fu performances, and from intricate calligraphy to captivating Emirati folklore, guests enjoyed an immersive experience of two rich heritages.

The festival buzzed with a variety of activities catering to all ages and interests. Attendees immersed themselves in hands-on experiences, from Chinese calligraphy workshops to sustainable agriculture demonstrations. Led by local artisans such as Saeed Al Rumaithi, the sustainable agriculture workshop showcased a commitment to environmental conservation. Families bonded over bracelet-making sessions by Al Ghadeer Emirati Crafts, doll-making by Beautiful Bear, and mosaic art workshops by Sarah Al Senaani. Additionally, music aficionados swayed to the rhythms of open-mic performances, highlighting the diverse talents within our community.

A standout moment of the event was the mesmerizing performance of Peter Pan, which transported audiences into the timeless realm of fantasy and wonder. Moreover, the exhibition of Chinese souvenirs and costumes offered a visual feast, highlighting the craftsmanship and traditions that define Chinese culture.

Her Excellency Huda Ibrahim Alkhamis, Founder of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) and Artistic Director of the Abu Dhabi Festival, regarded the Festival events held in the park as among the largest community celebrations hosted by Umm Al Emarat Park in the capital Abu Dhabi. She emphasised that these events offer Abu Dhabi's audience and members of the Emirati community, including both citizens and residents, ample opportunities to nurture talents and inspire free creative thinking among youth and students of all ages. This is accomplished through a range of artistic activities, performances, singing, and handicraft workshops.

She continued: 'This year, the Festival in the Park will include workshops on utilising recycled materials and sustainable agriculture, led by Saeed Al Rumaithi, showcasing a dedication to sustainability and environmental conservation. This initiative aligns with the country's continuous efforts, following the announcement by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to extend the 'Year of Sustainability' initiative to encompass the year 2024.'

Alkhamis concluded: 'In celebration of the Chinese New Year, we are thrilled to showcase Emirati arts alongside Chinese arts and crafts, mosaics, and fashion. As China, the Festival's guest of honour, shares a history of friendship, cooperation, and fraternity with the UAE since the establishment of diplomatic relations 40 years ago.'

More than mere entertainment, the 'Festival in The Park' fostered meaningful connections and celebrated the shared humanity that unites us all. As dusk descended, attendees gathered to witness a spectacular showcase of Emirati and Chinese culture, featuring stirring dance performances, melodic ensembles, and harmonious choir songs that transcended linguistic barriers, touching the hearts of all present.

Abu Dhabi Festival extends its gratitude to all who contributed to this unforgettable experience, from partners and performers to volunteers and attendees. This event exemplified the festival's commitment to promoting dialogue, tolerance, and peace through the universal language of art and culture.

Mark your calendars for next year's edition of the 'Festival In The Park', as we continue to celebrate the beauty of diversity and the power of community. Admission is free, welcoming all to join in this joyous celebration of culture, creativity, and camaraderie.
