AD Ports Group Honoured with 2024 Green World and Green Apple Environment Awards for its Efforts to Promote Sustainability in the Maritime and Logistics Sectors
Abu Dhabi, UAE – 28 January 2024: AD Ports Group (ADX: ADPORTS), a global enabler of integrated trade, transport, and logistics solutions, has been awarded two awards– a Green World Award and an International Green Apple Environment Award – for the Group's ongoing efforts to promote sustainability in the maritime and logistics sectors.
The Green World Awards is the top tier of the Green Apple Awards, presented since 1994 by the UK-based Green Organisation to recognise, honour, and promote environmental best practices globally, attracting entries from governments, ministries, regional authorities, companies, organisations, and communities.
Furthermore, AD Ports Group won the Silver 2024 Green World Award in the category of 'Transport & Distribution: Community Commitment' and the Bronze Green Apple Award in the 'Sustainable Development: Carbon Reduction' category, both in recognition of the Group's ongoing environmental activities and projects.
The Group's success in these awards programmes underscores its commitment to environmental sustainability and its role as a leader in promoting eco-friendly practices within the maritime and logistics sectors.
Captain Saif Al Mheiri, CEO of Abu Dhabi Maritime and Chief Sustainability Officer at AD Ports Group, said: 'Receiving the Green World and International Green Apple Environment Awards is a recognition of AD Ports Group's unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability. These awards underscore our dedication to implementing innovative eco-friendly practices within the maritime and logistics sectors. These awards not only celebrate our achievements, but inspire us to continue the journey towards a sustainable future.'
The accolades highlight the Group's innovative initiatives and dedication to reducing its own environmental impact while contributing to the global effort to protect our planet. AD Ports Group is a leader in sustainability practices in the maritime and logistics sectors. The Group has embedded sustainability in its core business strategy, and is systematically integrating alternative energy sources, and other innovative technology such as electric-powered tugboats, in its operations.
In 2023, AD Ports Group reduced the greenhouse gas emissions intensity and the electricity intensity of its container port handling operations by 2% and 7%, respectively, from 2022 levels, through greater efficiencies and the use of photovoltaic electricity, even as container throughput rose 13% year on year.
In its annual Sustainability Report, the Group reports Scope 3 emissions, the most transparent level of emissions reporting that measures not only the carbon footprint of AD Ports Group as a business, but the footprints of its customers and suppliers.
